Busan, South Korea.

Gamcheon culture village was a formal slum formed in the 1950s by refugees from the Korean war. Its people worked at the nearby port down the valley. It had its own style of architecture and a tight community. After the community and neighbourhood deteriorated in the 2000s, the city together with the community worked to revitalize the slum with art, cafes shops and colours. Today it is a major tourist destination in Busan. Although the revitalization is said to have been inclusive with community participation, today it leaves a very touristified impression with many selfie taking people who wait in line for the perfect spot. It is beautiful, nontheless, and has a particular charm - local even in the neighbourhood's back alleys - which is hard to find in the more modern neighbourhoods with skyscrapers.
