There was still to be one more sister born after this photo was taken... my dad(Joe) is on the right. Next to him is my uncle Jim... the girls, starting with the tallest, are Aunt Catherine, Aunt Dorothea, and Aunt Mary... Aunt Margaret would come later.
They lived in a very small farm house. Basically, one and a half bedrooms... no running water. Everything from a well... and an outhouse.
I don't believe there was running water til the 70's. I can still feel the smell of that house. Very old and musty... years later, my grandmother moved back into this house before she past away. I would periodically go out to visit her. I always enjoyed this. She would usually fix me chocolate chip cookies out of ingredients that she got from the Omish community... I was in high school at the time.
When she passed away. The family found a few items that I had given her. Cards and stuff... they seemed surprised by this. They told my mom that they didn't know we were that close(hello, grandmother)... or that I went out there regularly... they gave me back a collector's plate that I had given her with cardinals on it. I wish I would have kept this. A few years ago, a friend of my mom's collected cardinals... so I gave it to her to give as a gift. At the time, I didn't have any place for it... of course, now I do.
