Tintern tunnel south portal. What the scene looked like after the abandonment of the line by BR Western Region is recorded on my record of 12th September 1964 at 12:11. The River Wye rail bridge to the north of the far end of the tunnel has since been removed. Beyond the river, the old Tintern railway station has been converted to a tourist attraction and is well advertised. Thea area is now freely accessible to the public via walkways introduced.
