Silky Milkweed Fluff (Explored)
Milkweed gets its name from the milky sap contained in its leaves and stems. Although the chemicals in this sap can be poisonous to animals, milkweed is an important food source for the Monarch caterpillar. These butterflies lay their eggs on the milkweed leaves, and the larvae (caterpillars) feed on the leaves until they form their chrysalis. It is estimated that one milkweed pod has over 200 seeds.
