Das Ilsetal liegt am nördlichen Teil des Harzes. Vom Nationalparkort Ilsenburg am Harzfuß bis hinauf ins Quellgebiet der Ilse – nahe dem Gipfel des Brocken (1141,2 m ü. NHN) – erstrecken sich verschiedene Waldgesellschaften des Harzes. Heinrich Heine beschrieb das Ilsetal mit seinem Flüsschen Ilse und dem darüber thronenden Ilsestein im heutigen Nationalpark Harz.
The Ilsetal is located in the northern part of the Harz Mountains. From the national park town of Ilsenburg am Harzfuß up to the headwaters of the Ilse - near the summit of the Brocken (1141.2 m above sea level) - various forest communities of the Harz extend. Heinrich Heine described the Ilse valley with its river Ilse and the Ilsestein enthroned above it in what is now the Harz National Park.
