Separation
As with the Constitution, the dreadnought can separate its saucer section in an emergency. However, it can also do so for the sake of gaining a tactical advantage, although this is not recommended. The saucer retains warp capability, and therefore does not have emergency landing legs (the long triangular markings on the Constitution saucer). Alone, the dreadnought saucer retains three phaser banks and the torpedo launchers, so it is at least as capable on its own as the Saladin class destroyer, while the engineering section still has upper and lower phasers.
