Seve Briasteros
Household Cavalry
Changing the Guard is more than pomp and circumstance. It is a formal ceremony in which the group of soldiers currently protecting Buckingham Palace are replaced by a new group of soldiers.
Elite soldiers have guarded the King or Queen since the reign of Henry VII who made the Royal Body Guard a permanent institution which has spanned more than 500 years.
One group involves the Foot Guards and the other involves cavalry. Like the marching soldiers, members of the mounted regiment are dressed to impress — in this case with plumed helmets and white gloves.
The commoners flock around the palace for a chance to simply witness the daily event. Huh, well I guess I now know what that makes me!
