Frostbite Falls Alcos
Back in 1993 when MD&W's fleet was exclusively Alco switchers, Nos. 16 and 20 are seen resting outside their general office/shop building. Today the mill operates at a lower production level than it did in the past and the railroad relies almost exclusively on a pair of rebuilt ex-UP "hammerhead" SW10s painted in an attractive Forest Green with white lettering (they still have one or two Alcos on the roster but are seldom used).
No. 16 is a former B&O S-2 while No. 20 is an S-4 (NP 716, which worked Duluth-Superior).
