The American Spirit with a load of ore for Indiana Harbor was pushed by strong currents off its path out of the Duluth harbor and ended up nearly hitting a building. Fortunately they dropped their anchors and stopped just short of impact with the help of shallow water near the wall. The thousand footer was freed later in the evening with the help of two tugs.
