With Minnesota Power's announcement that they plan to shutter their small coal-fired power plant at Taconite Harbor later this fall I drove the few extra miles from Silver Bay to shoot the James R. Barker unloading coal at the dock today. Bought from Cliffs after LTVSMC ceased operations in 2001, this plant will end regular operation this fall and will only be restarted to handle excess loads until 2020.
