STRUCTURE AND COLOURS.

After having observed the nest for a some time, my parents thought that this beautiful work of art made with some interweaved copper threads had been made by a big and very ingenious bird. The woodpecker was still often seen in the big pines around our neighbourhood and was indeed an ingenious bird. The chickadees and the sparrows were too small to have made it, and the crows were not enough sophisticated.

Discovering some silk threads still present in the structure, my parents recognized old telephone cables. When the phone company had set up the new lines (in the Thirties, Forties or Fifties?), the workmen had probably left some bits of cables everywhere in the streets. And some ingenious birds had used them to build a nest... That nest was indeed very old... :)
