Siderite is evident here in the Hawkesbury sandstone. (FeCO3) with assocated iron bacteria.
One theory is water dissolved the siderite in the sandstone, leaving deposits in the cliff overhang. Which after time formed these hanging patterns. Similar to the way stalactites are formed in a limestone cave.
Whether that's true or not is unknown by me. Please let me know if this is correct or you have a better theory.
