Sunset Over Saguaro, Tucson
I shot this sunset near the Saguaro National Monument outside of Tucson. The scenery in that part of Arizona is truly amazing and the sunsets are great. I used a 75-300mm Nikkor lens (on a tripod) with a Nikon D70s; the lens was at 210mm (315mm in 35mm terms). Because the focal length was so long and the sun was so brilliant in a clear sky, there was really no way to balance the sky and foreground, so I created a multi-layered silhouette of sorts. I'm not sure I like the flare around the sun, but in a clear Arizona sky with a 300mm lens, you're pretty much stuck with it. :) I love the desert and it's amazing just to see scenes like this, let alone be able to photograph them. There is a free tutorial on Shooting Great Sunsets on my site. Here is another shot from the same shoot. Be sure to check out my Photo Tip of the Day blog, too. This photo is also from the Sunset Slideshow on my site.Copyright 2008 Jeff Wignall.
