Ganny Knits a Spaceship - David Gerrold

Recent offering from Gerrold, some of whose work I've liked in the past.

This short novel features an elderly couple & their granddaughter, who operate a once-essential Asteroid Belt based waystation for the transfer of goods betwen Earth, Mars & various colonies elsewhere. They find their busines model is nearing the end of it's viability as a new form of propulsion threatens to destroy their trade.

And, as they're planning how to cope, the grandfather, Gampy (as opposed to Ganny, the granny) dies.

All is not lost, however, as the two women, aged 100+ and 16, come up with an unlikely but apparently viable alternate to bankruptcy!

I picked it up for the title but any details of just how it's done are very slow in emerging and the vessel isn't actually completed by the end of the story.

Far too much pontificating from the youngster about how everything should be done and why the ways she has been taught by her 'we're NOT libertarian' grandparents are obviously the best - she's at least equal to the most annoying know-it-all Heinlein youngster!
