The lead character believes in homeopathy, although the results of her self-medication appear mixed, at least, and there's also a fair bit of pro-vegetarianism polemic which surfaces towards the end of the book.
The main point against it from my point of view however, are the extended sections of flashbacks to her childhood, in particular the excessive amount of time devoted to describing a young girl's first term at Secondary school, and the tribalism of her classmates... Well done, and quite probably accurate but not really my reading material of choice!
I did like her entering the chess competition despite being barred from the chess club, though!
Despite what I've said above, I am enjoying the book a lot!
