USS The Sullivans, by Charles Parsons
This model was completed in 1990. The ship was completed in 1943 in San Francisco, and was named for a family who lost five sons during the Battle of Guadalcanal. After this tragedy, the US Navy would allow only one family member per ship.
The model is one of a series built by Charles Parsons (1917-2004), a US Navy veteran who lived in San Carlos. After his retirement, he constructed scale models of ships from all over the world. Each model took around 18 months to complete, using careful research into the design of each ship.
