Sanctuary. [Main View]

(Brickworld 2024)

This build tells so many of the strangest stories. It’s officially been exactly 2 years since the third picture was taken on November 27th, 2022. I’m not sure which story I want to tell first. Whether it makes the most sense to use this build to chronicle what is surely some version of my “Dark Ages” or a testament to the hobby I can’t stop coming back to.

While this build clearly had more lives than it should have (three ‘final’ picture shoots, my first convention, a broken dream of it’s initial plan, it’s one-flextube tree still standing 650 days after it’s first construction, or even how it’s been hidden away in a shoe box for far too long), this build has given me far more than I would have ever expected.

I didn’t title it “Sanctuary” recently, I came up with that on a whim before Brickworld 2024 as I had much bigger plans for this build. Somehow that title has become the only “constant” surrounding this build. Not only have my emotions swung drastically on how I feel towards this build, but it has also tested my emotions around photography and social media. This hobby is my sanctuary, it’s where I’ve built so many friendships, cultivated countless skills and spent wayyyy too many hours…doing something I love. This hobby has helped me navigate through the greatest reshuffling of priorities I have ever experienced in my life. I moved across the country for school, then moved back closer to home to another school. I have chased athletic and academic goals I could have only dreamed of, experienced landscapes and leadership I never thought possible. I’ve found someone I’m pretty damn confident I could spend forever with, I’ve grown as a person in so many ways and I have opened up so many paths along the way.

Yet still, through all of that chaos, I can’t help but dream about what I could build, what worlds I could escape into with this hobby.

If you’re reading this, I am so thankful for you, thank you for being a part of something genuinely amazing.
