Raisha Allen, DeSoto East Middle School (DeSoto, TX)
Biography: I began my teaching journey in 2015 working at DeSoto East Middle School teaching 6th through 8th grade Science. I have taught in our STEM academy, introducing students to real-world problems and 21st century skills. In addition to serving as a model science instructor, I have also worked with the DeSoto ISD Science Department where I have served for two years as a secondary curriculum writer. I have my Masters in Curriculum & Instruction concentrating in 4-8th Science. Nelson Mandela said it best, Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.
Quote: I believe this grant will help me provide more hands on activities for my students even in a time of social distancing and virtual class. It will allow me to introduce them to some labs we would not be able to conduct due to the lack of material. It will help me increase their science knowledge and peak their interest in Science and STEM.
