High Rollaway Peaking
Pulled into the trail head on this morning to find a few pieces of heavy equipment parked there. Turns out 190 acres of state land surrounding the Roll Away are being "select" cut. Recently, I noticed that the diameter of timber stacked at the local sawmill is noticeably smaller than years ago and it caused me to ponder the word "sustainability," and who is using the term.
After a short conversation with an equipment operator I grabbed my pack and started the walk toward the observation deck, which is made of wood - to the drone of a distant skidder.
