Forggensee expeditions – somewhere between mud, reflections, and little adventures

As a lover of unusual landscapes and striking shapes, I find my little photo-Eldorado every year between March and April: the temporarily drained Forggensee. A surreal place – somewhere between Martian terrain, tidal flats, and a mirrorland.

Only a handful of my shots eventually make it into the community… but the moments I spend out there are just as valuable. Wandering across the slippery lakebed in the early morning darkness, just to find a shallow puddle with the perfect reflection – sounds odd, but there’s something quietly magical about it.

Evenings often turn into mild adventures: just one more shot, and suddenly it's pitch black… only to realize there’s now water where there was none before. Well. So far, I’ve always made it back to the car in one piece. Usually even dry.

The fascination remains. And I’m already looking forward to next year – to new shapes, new light, and new ideas on how to photograph this strange, shifting landscape once again.

Maybe this time I’ll bring rubber boots. Just to be safe.
