1967 Ford Taunus 12M [P6]

This is a German-built, circa 1966-‘70 Ford Taunus 12M, 4-Door, 4-5-Passenger Saloon, [P6]; (I’m going with 1967 as the model year because this looks like an early model) spotted in the harbour town of Argostoli, the largest town/city on the Greek island of Kefalonia.

This old Ford is quite a well-known car in Agostoli; it has often been photographed by tourists and records of the car exist elsewhere online. The car used to be found parked just off a main shopping precinct, in a plaza/square, in front of shops and behind a large bank. It has since been moved onto this main street, parked up like a true “Curbside Classic”.

I first saw this Taunus about a decade ago, parked in the town square. Back then, the car was in practically perfect condition, looking like it’d been freshly restored. Since then, however, the car is in a tad less-than-pristine condition; the paintwork has slightly dulled, there are a few small dents/chips in the bodywork, and some bits of chrome script at the rear are missing. Despite this, the car is far from what anyone could describe as poor condition - it is still a very clean, solid-and-straight, and mostly complete example which is taken care of. In fact, the car is in better condition than the last time I saw it; a small dent on the rear-quarter panel has since been repaired.

The car has a modern Greek/E.U. Registration plate; “6056” (previously “KEB 1945”), W/ what looks to be a “Historical” vehicle classification icon on the plate. This car would’ve likely been assembled at the Ford plant in Cologne, Germany, although I am not sure if it was an original specified Greek market export model or not. The chrome “FORD” lettering script on the bonnet is non-typical for a mainstream Taunus of this generation, although I have seen Italian export models with this style of script.

This Ford Taunus is one of a handful of other German-built Fords I have seen on the island of Kefalonia throughout my many visits here; between the towns of Katellios and Skala there is a dark green circa 1973/‘74 Taunus TC “Fastback” Coupe sitting in a goat pasture, which I also have pictures of. These Taunus models are often mistaken by tourists (especially Brits) as Cortinas.
