1964 Ford Consul Cortina Super 1500 MK1 “73 HTR”

Rear-quarter offside view of a very well-kept 1964 Ford Consul Cortina Super 1600 MK1 4-Door, 5-Passenger Saloon. This example is fitted W/ an original 1,500-CC, 1.5-Litre, 91.5-CID “Kent” inline-4-cylinder engine, plus a somewhat rare optional 3-speed automatic transmission. There is a good deal of history and documentation about this car listed online, according to which - this Cortina is unique in that it has original period aftermarket inertia seatbelts, which were fitted as third-party safety features when the car was new. The “No Hand Signals” signage on the boot/trunk was installed by the first owner – who was said to have had an arm disability, hence another reason why this car was ordered as an automatic. The car is painted in “Ermine White”, the five-character black plate registration – “73 HTR” is an April 1964 combination from the Southampton area, where this car was sold new.

This vehicle was spotted inside the sales showroom/overspill warehouse of the famous Mathewson’s classic car auction business, Pickering, Ryedale, North Yorkshire, U.K., October 2021.
