Innsbruck hosted the 1976 Winter Olympic games after Denver pulled out at the eleventh hour. Local hero Franz Klammer won gold in the mens downhill. American darling Dorothy Hamill starred in figure skating and her hairstyle was influential for years after. Peter Mueller took the top prize in speed skating.
