El Fondo Nature Reserve forms part of the lagoon area of Elche, which lies between Elche and Crevillent. The Nature Reserve is a couple of kilometre's away down a dirt track from San Felip Neri which is a small hamlet situated near to Catral. It has a large church and a central square. . This nature reserve (also confusingly known as El Fondo) is a Special Protection Area for Birds. There is a visitors centre with information about the flora and fauna, picnic benches, twitching huts, a 4 km circular walking trail with information boards and a 16 km cycle trail.
