Cahergal (bright stone fort) stands on a rocky outcrop amidst rich pastureland. Although close to Leacanabuaile, Cahergal markedly differs in its structure. Leacanabuaile has straight walls that narrow as they rise. In contrast, Cahergal has stepped walls with a multitude of terraces around the inside. It is an amazing feat of dry wall construction. If you climb up the terraces, you can walk along the ten foot thick fort wall and enjoy a panoramic view. There are the remains of two structures within the fort, a clochan and a rectangular house. A few artefacts have been placed inside the house including a stone cross and grinding stones. Archaeologists date the building between the 9th and 11th
