Greenfield Village, Dearborn, Detroit. To the right, Thomas Edison's Fort Meyer's Laboratory built in 1885. in the 1920s, Edison and his staff of botanists and chemists did a lot of research here to experiment with alternate sources for rubber. To the left is the 1870 Sarah Jordan Boarding House from Menlo, New Jersey. Men who were employed at Edison’s Menlo Park Laboratory stayed at this boarding house, which was one of the first to be lit by Edison’s newly invented incandescent lamp during the public lighting demonstration of December 1879
