Something Different

After building a series of traditional cameras (16x20, 8x16 and recently two 8x10 cameras under COVID lockdown), I decided to head down a more ambitious path. The new camera is based on a swing lens design and combines woodworking with some modern electrical technology.

In keeping with the last two cameras, this will also be based on single sheet 8x10 imaging and allows trials to be run with printing paper.

The camera has the following features:

8x10 paper or film in a curved path

105mm El-Nikkor enlarging lens, pivoting in a drum 130 mm in diameter

With an image circle of approximately 125mm, this will provide an image 5x10 and a horizontal angle of 135 degrees

The lens drum is driven by a stepper motor working through a 50:1 worm drive

To keep the electronics to a minimum, a simple 555 oscillator drives the stepper motor via an interface module. Simple switching limits movements and control a limited number of functions.
