Bedford Railway Station circa 1978
A view of Bedford Station during it's modernisation, circa 1978. Class 08 08606 is seen standing in the old southern bay platforms with a rail mounted digger, presumably being used as part of the electrification and rebuilding that was taking place at the time - behind can be seen the new station footbridge. This old station was soon swept away, being replaced by a DIY store and later becoming part of the station car park. Under East West Rail plans, part of this area may in future again host extended platforms for the Bedford EWR Station.
