Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt
Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt (vietnamesisch Thành phố Hồ Chí Minh) ist die größte Stadt und das wirtschaftliche Zentrum Vietnams. Unter ihrem alten Namen Saigon (Sài Gòn), der auch noch heutzutage parallel zu Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt verwendet wird, war sie bis zum April 1975 Hauptstadt der Republik Vietnam. Nach dem Abzug der US-Truppen und der militärischen Niederlage der südvietnamesischen Regierung wurde die Stadt 1976 nach dem 1969 verstorbenen nordvietnamesischen Staatschef Ho Chi Minh benannt. Im Verwaltungsgebiet der Stadt leben ca. 7,1 Millionen Einwohner (Volkszählung 2009).
Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt besitzt mit Ausnahme der Kernstadt kein zusammenhängendes Stadtgebiet, sondern ist – mit seiner außerhalb des Kerns dominierenden ländlichen Siedlungsstruktur – eher mit einer kleinen dicht besiedelten Provinz vergleichbar.
Die Stadt liegt etwas nördlich des Mekong-Deltas auf dem rechten Ufer des Saigon-Flusses. Sie ist Industriestadt, Verkehrsknoten und Kulturzentrum mit Universitäten, Theatern, Kinos, Museen, Baudenkmälern und Parks.

The city is located just north of the Mekong Delta on the right bank of the Saigon River. It is an industrial city, transport hub and cultural center with universities, theaters, cinemas, museums, monuments and parks.
