Erst mit dem 15,4 km langen Basistunnel unter dem Ceneri wird die durchgehende Eisenbahnverbindung von Altdorf bis Lugano Realität. Nach dem Gotthard- und dem Lötschberg-Basistunnel ist der Ceneri-Basistunnel das drittgrösste Tunnelbauprojekt der Schweiz.
Um den Ceneri-Basistunnel an die bestehende Bahnlinie anzuschliessen, entstanden beim Knoten Camorino diverse Bauwerke, so eine neue viergleisige Brücke über die A2 und zwei eingleisige Bahnviadukte über die vierspurige Kantonsstrasse.
Only with the 15.4 km long base tunnel under the Ceneri the continuous railway connection from Altdorf to Lugano becomes reality. After the Gotthard and Lötschberg Base Tunnels, the Ceneri Base Tunnel is the third largest tunnel construction project in Switzerland.
In order to connect the Ceneri Base Tunnel to the existing railway line, various structures were built at the Camorino junction, such as a new four-track bridge over the A2 and two single-track railway viaducts via the four-lane Cantonal Road.
