Drab bonnets

Theme: mushrooms

I was hoping that these were magic mushrooms when I first saw them but it turns out they are Mycena aetites, commonly known as Drab bonnets! They donโ€™t contain any magical substances and are not highly prized as edibles.

As you might expect from its common name, the Drab Bonnet is a dull little mushroom that is easily missed; however, it is relatively uncommon throughout Britain and Ireland and generally only appears in cropped grassland that has not been treated with herbicides, insecticides or fertilisers.
