TIE/sk x1 Experimental Air Superiority Fighter
Instructions available @ brickvault
The TIE-Striker was one of my favourite ships added to the Imperial Fleet in Rogue One.
In November 2018 I´ve started with some rough proportional outlines for the pod and the wings, but left it in that stage for over one month.
In December 2018 I´ve finally scrathced up enogh motivation to transform those concept builds into a high quality Lego model.
I´ve started to build up the cockpit pod, as this should be the strongest part of the build.
I´ve got the inspiration to use the 3x3 dome pieces to create the round shape, as well as the use of bricks for the wings to create those studless wings from Jerac´s mindblowing TIE-fighter series.
The pod was a real challenge, as I wanted to deatil the bottom as close to the original as possible, include both cockpits (one for the pilot, one for the bombardier), as well as a mechanic to move the wings. The last thing annoyed me a lot, as the space left was very limited to build the mechanism strong enogh to move those large and heavy wings. After dozens of tries I finally came to design that´s strong enough and not visible from the outside.
The cockpit pod turned out very strong, best way to hold it up is right at the proton bomb dispenser.
After the cockpit was completed I started building up the wings. I thought that would be easy, but it turned out way more complicated, to combine the wings with the mechanism inside the pod, as well as finding the right angle for the slope pieces. After my first design was completed I had to learn that the joints I build for the wings were way to weak to hold them up, so I had to redesign half of the cockpit pod aswell.
After another dozen of tries I had a TIE-Striker I can swoosh around, carefully ;D, without wings falling down or pods breaking apart.
All in all, I´m really happy with my TIE-fighter, my second and largest STAR WARS themed build so far.
I hope you like it as much as I do ;D.
Don´t forget to check out all of Jerac´s cool TIE fighters an starfighters here.
