book of transformation
SHORT STORY...
It was on the old library table for many many years - only moved to be dusted. Generations of the family had peeked inside of it, no one knowing how long it had been in the house.
*
The book had a strange way about it;
every one who read it saw and read a diferent book, the stories and pictures never the same for diffferent people.
It had the power of transformation dependant on who was reading it and what their persona was.
*
As most of the people who looked at it never actualy spoke of what they saw, as it was just regarded as a family heirloom and strictly not allowed to leave the room -the fact its content was different for every one was missed.
*
But one day a small child snuck into the old library ( children were normally not allowed in the room) and looked at the book. Fascinated by this large ageing object and by the pictures and for her at least large easy to read print, she excitedly chatted about the book at supper.
*
It was only then ( as this was a generational family get together) did the oldest member of the family and all the decendants start to talk about the book. Soon it was clear all their experiences were different.
*
rushing to the library together they opened the book. All pages were now blank except the inital page which read.:
"Books are for reading and sharing together and not as some untouchable object kept out of reach of the inquiring mind"
