Panorama@Panamint
I saw this scene when coming home from my Lake Manly paddle four days ago. I was too tired, and it was too late, to stop for a photo. Nor did I have the 8x10 kit with 4x10 panorama film with me. On that same day, I found a new place in the salt springs that I wanted to go to, so I made a photography only trip a couple days later. A front was moving in, but calm winds were forecast in the morning, Not quite a mirror when I took this photo, but still a nice reflection effect. When I passed on my return home, this location was enveloped in a near zero visibility dust storm.
This is Panamint Valley, which is the valley on the west side of the Panamint Mountains. I am parked beside CA-190, which cuts through this pluvial lake. The bright spot right of center on the approach slope of the background mountains are the Panamint Dunes. Everything you see here is within the Death Valley National Park.
