For Looking Close... on Friday!'s #(touch of) gold

This is a gold sharpie pen. And not the flame from the Statue of Liberty at a funny angle, as some might think :-)))

The nib is about 0.5cm long, and this shot isn't significantly cropped (except to tidy up the composition). I've recently bought some close-up filters for my macro lens, as I'm really interested in trying to get even closer than macro. This was my first experience of using the filters, and for this one, I used the x4 filter. The main issues are going to be that they seem to massively reduce the amount of light getting into the lens, so the shutter speed is far too slow for the sharpness I'd like. Also, the dof is very narrow, so this was a focus stack of 4 images, which incidentally I was super pleased with.

As another aside, I tried rotating this image, mainly to see what it looked like vertical to be more like a flame. But it just didn't feel right in any other orientation, which I found interesting.

The image was based on the Macro Mondays' theme from last year of vibrant minimalism, which is a style I love but just never quite remember to use.
