Peek Frean Cheeselets Retail Tin 1920s/30s
Peek, Frean & Co were established in 1857 in Bermondsey. Although still existing abroad, the firm ceased to operate in UK in 1989.
Perhaps showing my age, I can still remember biscuits being sold loose from tins and cardboard boxes like this one (in the 1950s & early 60s), especially in shops such as the Home & Colonial. We used to buy loose Jammie Dodgers from cardboard boxes for our milk break in my junior school, 2 for a halfpenny. This tin boasts of being By Appointment to HM King George V.
