Holman & Sons Access Cover, Guildhall Street, Penzance, Cornwall 30 January 2025

A triangular access cover from the St Just foundry of Holman & Sons.

Nicholas Holman established his works c.1800 in St Just catering for the engineering needs of the Cornish tin industry. They diversified into various areas such as agricultural machinery, bicycles and Cornish slabs (cast iron cooking ranges), supplying the latter to Trinity House for their lighthouses. In 1856 they opened a foundry in Market Jew Street in Penzance. They were certainly in business until at least late in the 20th Century.
