The Oddfellows, Commercial Street, Pontnewydd, Cwmbran 26 July 2021

This was taken for my expat brother for a project he is engaged on.

By the 14th Century, trades guilds had become prosperous and powerful. In towns where particular trades were not strongly represented, various such tradesmen would form composite "Odd Fellows" guilds. after suppression of the guilds towards the end of the reign of Elizabeth I, Freemasons and Odd Fellows survived by adapting to a social support role. By 1911 the Odd Fellows were the largest Friendly Society in the world. Many pubs are named after them, presumably used originally as lodge meeting places. The Latin motto is a corrupted version of the society's motto Amica, Amor, Veritas - Friendship, Love, Truth, symbolised by the three linked chain.
