Murray's Extra Cream Caramels 1930s

In 1882, Robert Stuart Murray, a Chicago confectioner, relocated to London and introduced American style caramels to Britain, opening the Fleet Factory in Clerkenwell, London. Subsequently subsidiary companies were opened in Australia and Ireland. In 1936 CS Morton, a tinned food producer, acquired the firm, and in the late 1930s the Fleet Factory was closed and production transferred to Lowestoft.

After the war they were bought by Beecham's and became famous for their Murray Mints - "Murray mints, Murray mints, the too good to hurry mints".

Murray mints are still sold in Britain under the Maynard Bassett brand.
