St Edward King & Martyr Church, Corfe Castle, Dorset 10 October 2018
This 1739 bell was number five of six bells; it was replaced in 1999.
The church was built probably during the 12th Century, named after St Edward the Martyr who was murdered on 18th March 978 on the orders of Queen Alfthryth, his stepmother. After Corfe Castle was occupied by the Parliamentarians during the English Civil War, the Puritan forces used the church as a stables, and the font as a horse trough. A radical rebuild in 1859-60 saw bulging walls rebuilt and 18th Century galleries removed.
