James Bevan Bus, Bus Station, Albion Square, Chepstow 23 June 2018

A “cross border” bus operated by James Bevan/Zimmermann of Lydney. Probably popular with soldiers from Beachley Barracks in Gloucestershire for fetching them to the fleshpots of Chepstow such as the Mythos Bar!

James Bevan claim to be “probably one of the oldest motor coach businesses in Gloucestershire”. A Thomas Letheren started in the 1900s with horse and cart delivery, and by the end of WW1 he opersted a fleet of fourteen motor buses. The firm was sold to Red & White Services (Watts), but the family retained two buses to maintain a service until 1967. Ownership then passed to Roy Bevan who retained the Letheren name until the 1970s. In 2010 became managed by Mark and Jana Zimmerman, with James Bevan as chairman. They operate twelve bus services as sell as excursions, private hire and outside vehicle maintenance.
