Mariners' Church, Gloucester Docks 7 December 2016
The simple interior of the Mariners' Church at Gloucester Docks. I feel it needs a whaling boat for a pulpit as in 'Moby Dick'.
The opening of the Gloucester-Sharpness Canal in 1827 brought an influx of sailors to the port. After being proposed in 1831, the church was finally completed in 1849 "in order to bring evangelism to the ignorant and neglected seamen and boatmen". It is still in use, and a Grade II Listed Building.
