The Foel Tower
Garreg Ddu Reservoir, Elan Valley, Powys, Wales
The Foel Tower is the starting point of the 73 mile journey of the water from the Elan Valley to Birmingham.
This stone tower houses a system of valves and cylinders which can be raised and lowered hydraulically to draw water off from the reservoir at various depths as required. This water is then directed into the start of an aqueduct that carries the water to Birmingham.
Unfortunately it rained for most of the duration of my visit to the Elan Valley. This was taken during one brief interlude in the monsoon like rain that was coming down..... so I visited again this weekend. The sun was shining and all the dams were flowing over so more shots to follow :))
