Lucky (Albertsons)
After the 1999 merger with American Stores, Albertsons retired the Lucky banner for their own. Shortly before the 2006 SUPERVALU acquisition, the original Albertsons Inc. revived the Lucky banner on a handful of stores after Grocery Outlet attempted to register the Lucky trademark.
SUPERVALU continued to use the Lucky name, positioning the stores as a low-priced discount format in the Las Vegas market, however this was a short lived revival.
When Albertsons LLC acquired the former Albertsons assets owned by SUPERVALU, the Super Saver stores already owned by Albertsons LLC in Salt Lake City were converted to the Lucky name.
It should be noted these Lucky stores operate independently from the stores owned by Save Mart (which has owned the Lucky name in Northern California after buying the entire Northern California division from Albertsons LLC in 2007).
