Silently forming...

As I was thinking about the buds forming along this twig, I thought of Simon and Garfunkel's old song that I *thought* ended each chorus with: "Silently forming.. Silently forming.."

But when I went to look at the lyrics to jog my memory of exactly which song it was, I discovered that I had misheard the words all these years. It's not "silently forming" - it's "silently for me" - or so says Google..

The song is all about a singer, traveling and thinking of his love at home waiting "silently for me".

Home where my thought's escaping,

Home where my music's playing,

Home where my love lies waiting

Silently for me.

This is a classic "mondegreen" - a persistent mishearing of a lyric and switching the words out in a way that makes some sense to the listener.

All these years I interpreted the words to mean that his love was carrying his child, which was what really made him wish he were 'homeward bound'. Home, to where his love and his future child were waiting, silently forming..
