"THIS" is why you don't put the sun at your back..

This may be the only picture I've seen of us taken at the house my father built - the one where I live now. So it's fascinating to see everybody at this point in our lives, but the sun didn't exactly bring out anybody's best features..

 

The conventional wisdom was always that you put the sun at your back so the light falls on your subjects face. And that may have been true when they were shooting tin-types or the old, slow film cameras.

 

The downside is of course that in bright sunshine, you get perfectly clear pictures of people squinting in the glare of the sun. Of course, that can be fun too, in a mean kinda way...
