They say from space, the earth looks like a little blue marble..
.. rolling around the sun in a giant circle between the white marble that is Venus, and the little red one that is Mars.. Seemingly eternally..
In reality, there's a lot going on in and on this little marble. They say the magnetic poles are getting ready to flip again, as they have many times in the past. Don't worry - you probably won't have to update the GPS system in your phone. It probably won't happen within the next thousand years or so. But just in case you're the kind that likes to plan ahead, I guess they thought they'd let us know.. Duly noted!
They say the earth's core is solid iron, surrounded by a layer of liquid iron, and it's the friction between the solid core and the liquid outer layer that creates the magnetic field that surrounds and protects us from harmful solar radiation. Quite a stroke of luck, I'd say....
