Elmton & Creswell Block Book Sunday 30th March 1975
It’s time for a few more document scans. This first one relates to the passenger diversions via Shireoaks, Creswell and Shirebrook on Sunday the 30th of March 1975. Tapton Junction was being re-laid that Easter Sunday so the trains were diverted via this route. I got to see all seventeen diverted trains pass through Langwith, but alas, I was a still a couple of months away from having my first camera. I’ve only seen a few photos of this event, which is strange as now there would be dozens of images and videos posted on line within minutes of one of the trains passing!
The scan shows the TRB from Elmton & Creswell Junction on the day in question. The two signalmen on duty are my old box mates Harold Taylor of Worksop and Arthur Tasker of Langwith. (No points for noticing that Harold has entered the wrong year on the Down page!!) As you can see, the tamping between Woodend & Creswell that would normally have taken place on the Sunday was carried over to the Easter Monday.
For the record the following engines worked through on that date:

This was manna from heaven for a young spotter more used to daily passage of train after train of coal wagons!
