Silberreiher Portrait / Great White Egret Portrait
Weil der Silberreiher ein komplett weißes Federkleid hat, sticht die Augen-/Schnabelpartie besonders hervor. Am rein gelben Schnabel sieht man, dass die Brutzeit für Silberreiher noch nicht begonnen hat. Diesen Reiher habe ich auf einer Wiese fotografiert, wo er auf der Jagd nach kleinen Säugern war. Er ist ein sehr erfolgreicher Jäger und seine potentielle Beute wird unsere Freude an der Schönheit dieses Vogels nicht teilen: die roten Flecken auf dem Schnabel sind das Blut eines Maulwurfs, den er eine Viertelstunde vorher aus einem Maulwurfshügel gepickt und kopfvoraus verschlungen hat.
Um das Bild besonders detailreich sehen zu können, drückt die Tasten l (kleines L) und F11. Beim vergrößern nur durch Anklicken gehen viele Details verloren.

Because the great egret has a completely white plumage, the eye and beak area particularly stands out. The pure yellow beak shows that the breeding season for great egrets has not yet started. I photographed this egret in a meadow, where it was hunting for small mammals. It is a very successful hunter and its potential prey will not share our delight in the beauty of this bird: the red spots on the beak are the blood of a mole which it pecked out of a molehill fifteen minutes earlier and devoured head first.
