Common Guillemot (Uria aalge) stranded on Blackpool Beach
I witnessed this Common Guillemot in distress and trying to fend off a number of Herring Gulls on Blackpool Beach on my daily walk this morning. I approached the bird and scared the Herring Gulls away, this bird was unable to fly or run away, but tried to defend itself by vigorously pecking at me. I put on my gloves and carried it away from the predatory Herring Gulls and took it to the vets where my daughter works, it is now in their care. They kindly agreed to look at it and have contacts with various wildlife/bird rescue organisations for future care.
